Good Soil Trust is a charity for people struggling with life for many reasons.
Our purpose is to bring hope and transformation.
Growing Lives. Releasing potential.

The Good Soil Trust

GROWING LIVES. RELEASING POTENTIAL.

In our society there are many people who struggle with life for a variety of reasons including unemployment, homelessness, addiction, crime and mental health. Those that find themselves in these situations can often feel marginalised and trapped. With Christian values at the heart of Good Soil our vision is to see these lives transformed releasing potential and hope regardless of background, race, sexual orientation and religious persuasion.

Our mission is to provide a safe, non-threatening family environment where adults can develop essential life skills and can be equipped and empowered to lead meaningful and independent lives. We aim to take individuals out of the chaos and confusion that can often prevail during change and offer:

• Supported Housing

• Meaningful activity in outdoor environment
• Healthy food and positive relationships
• Spiritual input

The Farm Project

PURPOSEFUL WORK, RURAL SKILLS & GREAT COMMUNITY IN BEAUTIFUL SURROUNDINGS

The Good Soil Project is a therapeutic land-based project based at Top Barn Farm in Worcestershire. The project has been offering land-based activity and community to marginalised people from the city of Worcester since 2005. Individuals are engaged through outreach and through referrals from other agencies like Probation Services, Swanswell and Maggs Day Centre.

Activities range from land-based horticulture and stock care to rural crafts, environmental care, landscaping and construction and woodwork.

Click through the gallery pictures opposite for a flavour of the project's activities through the year or read George's account of a Typical Farm Day.

A Typical Farm Day

HERE'S A RUNDOWN OF WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

TO BE DOING WHILE HERE AT THE FARM

A typical farm day starts with everyone gathered in the dining room for 'Thought For The Day' which is a little chat served with tea, coffee and biscuits to get people thinking about life, with parts read from the bible as reference. before the word for the day, there are  to enjoy.

Then everyone will be assigned a task to do which will differ each day, depending on what needs doing around the farm. A few tasks for example are Feeding the chickens, sheep and pigs, cleaning out the chicken pens with fresh bedding, collecting the chicken eggs, washing and boxing them ready for sale, maintaining fruit and vegetable produce. There's also woodworking and crafts activities to get involved in.

We have a break around 12pm where a meal is cooked and everyone eats together before resuming their tasks for the day.

BASIC NEEDS PROVISION

It can be very difficult to break out of a negative cycle when basic needs are not met. Working in the heart of the city of Worcester the Good Soil provides essentials for the homeless and individuals in need. Building on the previous work of Worcester City Mission and in partnerships with local churches and other meal providers, The Good Soil provides a hot meal to the homeless and vulnerable on Saturday nights throughout the year.

Links with FoodBank, Maggs Day Centre, The Salvation Army, Christians Against Poverty and Worcester Homeless Appeal help us to focus our efforts in a coordinated manner.

Outreach

ENGAGING WITH NEEDS

Working in the heart of the city of Worcester we engage with the with some of Worcester's most vulnerable people through basic needs provision and intentional relationship.

Outreach worker, Dave Collett, and volunteers connect daily with this target group carrying with them a message of hope.

In connection with partner organisations, we serve in any way we can to meet needs, fill gaps in provision, promote good relationships or simply to offer a friendly face and a kind word.

Getting Involved

DONORS, VOLUNTEERS, SUPPORTERS, PARTNERS & COMMISSIONERS

There are several ways that you can get involved:

DONATE - Donating is an excellent way to support us, as a one-off gift or preferrably by monthly standing order. An organisation can't operate without funds and we rely on donations and fundraising for a large part of our income. Donating via Gift Aid means that we can reclaim an extra 25p for every £1 you donate. Go to the DONATIONS page to find out more.

VOLUNTEER - Volunteers are the lifeblood of Good Soil. We are always seeking people with a heart to serve their community and who are committed to our Christian values. The Good Soil Trust takes the safeguarding of our participants very seriously. All volunteers are DBS checked. If you would like to know more, CONTACT US.

SUPPORT - We particularly value our supporters, advocates and ambassadors within local churches, community groups, supermarkets and other supporting networks. If you feel you could fulfill such a role within your own community please CONTACT US.

PARTNER - If you are an organisation working with the same target groups we would love to hear from you. We are really keen that our services are as "joined up" with those of other local and regional providers as possible and that together our provision has maximum impact. To connect with us, CONTACT US.

COMMISSION - You may be an organisation with a need to place clients with Good Soil on the farm project. We work with several commissioning groups and would be delighted to discuss your organisations needs. For more information CONTACT US.
